I love SpongeBob, but this movie leaves me with mixed feelings. don’t get me wrong, the movie has its fun moments, but for me it’s like eating too much chocolate - sweet and exciting at first, but then it leaves me feeling overwhelmed. the story feels all over the place, like it doesn’t know where to focus. I try to enjoy the chaos, but even SpongeBob’s goofy style needs a bit of structure. the plot is simple: rescue Gary. but somehow, the movie keeps throwing random flashbacks and extra scenes that confuse the timeline. I like a bit of nostalgia, but this feels like too much. it tries to tug at my heartstrings with SpongeBob’s memories of meeting Gary, but it’s done in a messy way. it’s hard to feel emotional when the scenes jump around so much. now, the animation? that’s a big win for this movie. the 3D glossy style works really well for Bikini Bottom. the underwater vibe is bright and fresh, making everything look more alive. the characters look different, but in a good way. I have to admit, the animation kept me entertained even when the story didn’t.

one of the highlights is Keanu Reeves as a tumbleweed named Sage. his cameo is fun, but let’s be honest; it’s a gimmick. they think just because it’s Keanu, I’ll forget about the weak plot? nice try! his scenes are entertaining but don’t really add much to the story. I wish they used him better instead of relying on his charm to distract me. the movie is a mix of boring and enjoyable moments. some jokes land, but others feel forced. it’s like the writers are trying too hard to make me laugh, while not putting enough effort into the story. still, I stayed until the end because I wanted to see how SpongeBob and Patrick save Gary. the ending is cute, but it doesn’t make up for the messy middle. in the end, Sponge on the Run is not terrible, but it’s not great either. it’s okay for kids and fans who love SpongeBob no matter what. for me, it’s a fun distraction, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
